Electro-Mechanical Corporation

COMPANY:
Electro-Mechanical Corporation, headquartered in Bristol, Virginia, has six divisions in five Bristol locations:  Metal Castings Company, Line Power Manufacturing, Line Power Rebuild, Federal Pacific Transformer, Machinery Components Company and Electric Motor Repair & Sales Company.

TYPE OF COMPANY: EMC is one of the largest privately-owned corporations in the United States, employing 600 people. The corporation manufactures products used in the generation, transmission, distribution and control of electricity worldwide. These products, along with various electrical equipment repair and maintenance services, are used by industrial customers that specialize in using a mix of energy and electric utility services.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS NEED: Previous broadband provider allowed for speeds of only 1.5 Mbps or less for transmitting data between the company’s five locations. Faster network access and communications relay between the six companies was an essential need. BVU OptiNet provided that solution.

OPTINET SOLUTION: BVU OptiNet set up a private data network to manage the company’s five Bristol, Virginia, locations. The arrangement streamlined the company’s network management by increasing broadband speed to 10 Mbps at one facility and to 5 Mbps or more at the other five.

RESULT: Increased data speed and quality resulted in better information sharing and general communications between the five locations. Significant cost savings was also realized over previous providers using telephony lines.
